About the Sabres

The TouchdownClaymores.com Glasgow Sabres are a newly set up flag football team. The guys met through the TouchdownClaymores.com Forums after expressing an interest to play the game for fun.

After some discussion and debate, they met up for their first training session at Bellahouston Park on Saturday 7th June 2003.

After just one training session a squad of 5 players travelled to Airdrie for the teams inaugural match with the Raptors where they emerged victorious in a high scoring encounter.

The Sabres would go on to split two scrimmages with the Broncos in June and July before they kicked off their league campaign in August. The team had mixed fortunes, but stayed committed to their schedule to the end and finished with a 4-6 record after claiming forfeits.

They also had the honour of taking on their sister team the Aberdeen Oilcats in their inaugural match in November which was christened the Touchdown Claymores Bowl with both sides taking a game a piece on the day.

The juniors also saw some action during the year, participating in the Claymores Kickoff tournament. Playing against experienced opponents including the UK Champions the Carluke Predators the youngsters, most of whom were playing up an age category acquitted themselves well.

In 2004, the seniors returned for their second season, with Gary McNey taking over as coach, the team had a new determination about them, showcasing an explosive offense only once held under 40 points on their way to a solid second place finish.

For the 2005 season, we have two teams competing in the SFFA leagues. We now have a Cadet team in addition to our Senior squad. Both teams will be competing to win the first league crown for the Sabres.
