Scott Couper #81

Scoops looks relaxed at practice before the season opener against Berlin

A man who needs no introduction to Claymores fans is Scott Couper. Scoops has been a fan legend in his 7 years at the Claymores and retired in 2001. Realising he'd retired too early, he returns to the Claymores for 2003 with the chance of playing the World Bowl in his hometown of Glasgow.

In his last final game, Scott caught a touchdown that took him over 100 catches, 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns in his career - not inconsiderable milestones. However, this year, he's gonna blow past those marks. There's no reason why Scott can't catch for 500 yards this year, he's got the talent and seems as fit as ever, all he needs is the opportunity.

He's not the fastest bloke on two legs, but his soft hands more than make up for this. Scott got his NFL chance in a preseason game for the Chicago Bears in Dublin in 1997. He got on the field but unfortunately didn't make a catch. It was a remarkable achievement for the scrawny boy from the west coast.

In recent years, Scott has been the driving force behind the grassroots development of the sport in Scotland getting the sport into schools around the country and setting up a flourishing junior scene which, in time will develop to success in the senior game.

The boy is back, it's time to get behind him and the whole team - SCOOOOOOOPS!

Week 1
vs Berlin
6th April
62 - 31 W
Recieve: 1-35-0TD

Scoops chose a good game to return in! His only catch of the yard was a 35 yarder that was the Claymores longest of the day. It came on first down mid way through the third quarter putting the Claymores into field goal range which Brian Holmes converted for 3 points
Week 2
vs Frankfurt
13th April
17 - 13 L
Recieve: 1-5-0TD

Another catch for Scoops this week in a poor overall team performance. But perhaps the catch this week will be overshadowed by the one he dropped, which i'm sure he'll even say he should have hauled in. Never mind lets hope for better things next week!
Week 3
@ Rhein
19th April
34 - 17 L

No stats for Scott this week despite actually making 1 catch that was nullified by a penalty. Lets get a TD next week and break out the old TD dance again!

Week 4
@ Berlin
27th April
34 - 17 W

No stats for Scott this week either although he did record a miscellaneous tackle. Shame it was after a ball thrown to him that was picked that he really should have caught
Week 5
vs Barcelona
4th May
10 - 17 L
Receive: 2-17-1TD

Scoops got in the endzone for the first time this season and his two catches leave him just 2 shy of his 100th career reception. Good job Scottie!
Week 6
@ Frankfurt
10th May
27 - 33 L OT

Scott didn't make any receptions this week but missed getting on the stats sheet dropping one pass
Week 7
vs Rhein
18th May
33 - 0 W
Recieve: 1-4-0TD

Just 1 catch short of the ton
Week 8
@ Amsterdam

Quiet week for Scoops, not stats to report
Week 9
@ Barcelona
31st May
45 - 7 W
Recieve: 2-26-1TD

Scoops made his 100th career catch, and how fitting it was that it came on a touchdown. He added 101 for good measure in the second half
Week 10

No stats to report from Scott this week
