His exceptional play that season brought national attention, as he was ranked 10th nationally among cornerbacks by Lindy's. "I've always tried to be a leader," he said. "As far as keeping my teammates' heads in the game".
Notre Dame teammate Albert Poree said of Harper, "He's been like a mentor to me. I watch him in practice, looking at how he moves and turns. I talk to him and he gives me advice, for both on and off the field."
As well as playing defense at high school, Deveron also played wide receiver amassing 142 receptions during his career. His brother is Dwayne Harper, who played cornerback for the San Diego Chargers.
The last time TouchdownClaymores.com picked a defensive back, he won the League Defensive MVP award (Duane Hawthorne in 2000). Deveron will make it 2 for 2!
