When TouchdownClaymores.com came to pick in the 2002 Fan Draft, we wanted to select a position we hadn't supported before. Michael Hawkes seemed the perfect guy - tough, big hitter, a top competitor and a proven winner - he was on the Virgina Tech side that played for the national championship in 1999.In the 2000 NFL Draft run up, Pro Football Weekly analysed him as follows: "Top competitor. Has a motor that always seems to be going 100 mph. Big hitter for size. Lets you know you have been in a football game. Seems to be pretty instinctive and to have developed a little knack for the interception. Should be a very good special-teams player"
Now, as a starting middle linebacker for the Claymores in 2002, he's going to tear up running backs and recievers all around Europe.

COLLEGE/AMATEUR: Second team All-Big East choice as a senior… Started very game and totaled 69 tackles, two interceptions and three sacks while helping the Hokies reach the Sugar Bowl and vie for a national championship.
