Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh

Murrayfield is one of the largest and most impressive stadia in the United Kingdom. It was first opened in 1925 and was to be the home of Scottish Rugby Union, taking over form Raeburn Place in Edinburgh and Auld Anniesland in Glasgow.

The stadium has been continually renovated over the last 60 years, in 1930 the manual scoreboard was replaced and in 1936 the wing stands were added. The terracing on the east side of the stadium was bulldozed in 1982 to make way for the 10,700 seat East stand. Terracing on the North and South stands remained until 1990 when new safety regulations demanded an all-seater stadium. The original West stand the North and South terraces were removed the same year after a debenture scheme raising the 37 million pounds needed to build the 67,500 seat stadium that you see today.

Over the years Murrayfield has seen some gigantic crowds including a world record rugby crowd of over 104,000 in 1975 to see the Scottish rugby team play Wales in the "Five Nations" tournament although police dispute this figure. The Claymores have consistently set attendance records recently for American Football in Scotland, their current record is 38,981 when Scotland beat the Frankfurt Galaxy in the World Bowl.
