World Bowl '98
Sunday 14 June, 1998
Waldstadion, Frankfurt

Final Score : Fire 34 - 10 Galaxy

This game could be dubbed the battle of the backup quarterbacks as both starters, Frankfurt's Damon Huard and Mike Quinn of Rhein were forced out the game due to injury. Instead it was up to Chris Dittoe of Frankfurt and Jim Arellanes for the Fire to lead their respective teams to World Bowl glory.

In the poring rain in Frankfurt, Rhein always held the upper hand and got on the scoresheet first thanks to Manny Burgsmullers 29 yard field goal. This was quickly followed up by a 15 yard touchdown pass from Jim Arellanes to Dialleo Burks for a 10-0 first quarter lead.

Frankfurt weren't about to give in that easily as they proved when Jermain Chaney went in from 3 yards to cut the deficit to 3.

The resurgence was shortlived as Arellanes and Burks hooked up again, this time from 20 yards just before half time for a 17-7 advantage.

Ralf Kleinmann booted a 41 yard field goal to give the Frankfurt faithful some hope but it was not enough as the fire ran out of control with Marcus Robinson latching onto a 74 yard pass from Arellanes for a score.

Burgsmuller added a 20 yard field goal before Jon Vaughn rounded out the scoring with a 15 yard run two minutes from time with a scoreline of 34-10.

Galen Hall got his World Bowl victory after coming so close in 1997, losing in the final to the Barcelona Dragons.
