Final Score: Barcelona Dragons 17 - 24 Berlin Thunder

Barcelona came into this game on the back of an 8-2 season and as overwhelming favourites. Berlin was still regarded by many as an upstart expansion franchise in only its third full season.

That all changed in this tight, exciting World Bowl.

Berlin got off the mark first with a 53 yard, 4 point field goal from Scott Bentley. Jesus Angoy reduced the deficit to a point with a 20 yard field goal at the end of the first quarter.

Angoy added another two field goals to give the Dragons their first lead of the game 9-4. But, it took until almost half time for either offense to seriously threaten the oppositions endzone.

Berlin began a solid drive at their own 33 yard line. A key pass to D Brown from Berlin QB Jonathan Quinn for 19 yards set the Thunder in scoring position. Three plays later, Quinn hit Dwaune Jones in stride for a 46 yard score. Thunder Coach, Peter Vaas opted to go for two but Quinn's pass to Ahmad Merrit falls incomplete giving the Thunder a slight 10-9 lead at the half.

The Dragons could have retaken the lead early in the third but Jesus Angoy's field goal attempts was blocked by Thunder DB Billy Gustin. On their next drive, however, Dragons QB Jarious Jackson hit WR Tony Simmons on a comeback route which Simmons managed to evade tacklers to speed down the sideline for a 58 yard score.

Jackson hit a diving Trevor Insley to secure the 2 point conversion and a 17-10 lead towards the end of the third period.

It was looking good for the Dragons when with just under 10 minutes left in the game they still held a 7 point lead. Berlin mounted a 7 play, 68 yard drive capped off by Ahmad Merrit's 17 yard touchdown grab in the endzone from Quinn. The extra point tied the game leading to a tense final period for both sides.

Barcelona went three and out on their subsequent drive giving the momentum back to the Thunder. Berlin took it and ran with it - 86 yards over 7 plays. On 3rd and three on their own 47 yard line, Quinn rolled right on a play-action and spotted a streaking Dwaune Jones around the 9 yard line. Quinn heaved the ball up and connected with Jones who evaded a tackler and headed for the endzone. The extra point gave the Thunder a 24-17 lead, one they would not relinquish.

Jackson lead the Dragons to the Berlin 3 yard line with barely a minute remaining. He rolled right but was caught by Thunder lineman Strohmeyer and sacked for a three yard loss. Next play, Jackson threw for Harris but the pass was tipped effectively ending the game.

MVP Jonathan 'Mighty' Quinn culminated his 308 yard, 3 TD passing performance by taking a taking a knee to end the contest and let Peter Vaas pick up his first World Bowl Trophy.
